Dear Monica,
Words I Wish I Read…
Thinking about the above-mentioned phrase from my perspective as a woman in her late sixties , there are several words that I wish I had read at various stages of my life.
As a teenager in the 60’s I wish I had read these words : You can be anything you like. Don’t be limited by lack of confidence and other’s expectations of you as a female.
As a young woman in my early twenties: If you are sexually harassed, verbally or physically, by anyone don’t stay quiet about it. You did not ask for it!!
As a 25 year old married woman: You are a valued and equal member of this world. You are not supposed to do all the cooking, cleaning and shopping.
As a new mother: Don’t be afraid to ask for help and admit that first time motherhood, although wonderful is exhausting.
As a parent: Talk to your children. Don’t assume that you understand their fears and insecurities.
Love,
Monica.
